Retiree Reunion Postponed
Due to the restrictions during the pandemic we are currently experiencing, there will be no SwRI Retiree's Reunion this year. Although we will miss being able to visit with fellow retirees, it will be much safer for us to wait until we're sure we won't be experiencing the possibility of catching/spreading a virus among other attendees.
We hope everyone is taking the necessary precautions and staying safe at this time so we can get together at a later date.
Technical Advisor Ralph Hill needs your research help and historical knowledge. If you have information about the following former staff members and their work: William L. Rollwitz, Robert Kenneth Swanson, Stan Silvus, and Derwin King, please email Ralph at email@example.com.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Notice
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the Coronavirus (COVID-19) an infectious pandemic disease. Please know your health and wellbeing are of concern to us. Please continue to practice good hand washing hygiene, stop touching your face, practice “respiratory etiquette,” and don’t panic. If you have been traveling, please follow the CDC guidelines for travel.
Fitness Center Closed Beginning March 20
In light of the evolving events, we have decided to close the SwRI Fitness Center complex until further notice beginning Friday, March 20, 2020, (including outdoor fields, track and RRA store). Although our doors may close, we are available to assist you virtually. Feel free to reach out via email for personal workouts you may do on your own. We want to assure you that as soon as our facility re-opens we will be ready to greet you with a grand “homecoming.” Until then, be safe, stay healthy, keep fitness a priority, and reach out to us for any assistance you may need.
Note from Fitness Center Staff:
We hope that this message finds you doing well, and you’ve been trying to stay active throughout the week. As we care about your health and fitness needs, we have designed a Home Workout routine with 6 full body workouts and 5 core routines that give you several options and require no equipment. There are two versions of the file. One with videos to demonstrate the exercises and one with no external links.
Keep in mind these routines are guidelines, so make them your own. Use modifications by replacing a lower body exercise with an upper body exercise, reducing/increasing repetitions or rounds as needed.
Feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for inquires. Stay connected.

Dr. William Guion died June 16. Guion joined the Institute on September 10, 1970. He served as Vice President of the Signal Exploitation and Geolocation Division, which is now the Defense and Intelligence Solutions Division (16), from 2000 to 2012, succeeding Terry Green. Guion retired June 22, 2012, following 42 years of service to the Institute. During his tenure as vice president, the division brought in more than $300 million in revenue, made $8 million in net income, executed more than 800 projects, and hired 126 staff members. He consistently set the tone for both technical excellence and integrity.
The memorial service is being held in his honor at 1 p.m. this Thursday, July 2, at University United Methodist Church, 5084 De Zavala Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78249. Click here to register to attend the service. His obituary and guest book are available online.
Technology Today Podcast featuring SwRI’s Chris Sharp now available!
Vehicles our communities depend on, like big rigs, garbage trucks and buses, are all equipped with heavy-duty engines that contribute to smog. Ultimately, that pollution leads to poor air quality and public health issues. SwRI engineers have developed a solution. Their near-zero emissions heavy-duty diesel engine drastically cuts down on harmful nitrogen oxides, while decreasing other pollutants. After years of research, SwRI engineer Chris Sharp and his team are ready to introduce a game-changing technology in heavy-duty transportation that could benefit human health.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) season has kicked off, with 23 locations across San Antonio. Last year this program returned more than $70 million dollars to many of our friends and neighbors in San Antonio. VITA is available free of charge for individuals and households that earned up to $55,000 in total income last year. VITA volunteers electronically file basic federal income tax returns for families and individuals.
This program is sponsored by the City of San Antonio, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, and Catholic Charities. For more information or to find a nearby VITA site and its business hours, tax filers can go online to www.vitasa.org or call the United Way Helpline at 2-1-1.

Slick Book Exchange
Next time you’re on campus, stop by the Thomas Baker Slick Memorial Library and visit the ‘Slick Book Exchange’ located in the Library Reading Room.
Here’s how it works: come by the library anytime Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., drop off your gently used books and exchange them for the same number of books that are new-to-you. That’s all—it’s a one-for-one swap and there’s no need to check these books out or return them unless you want to swap again.
Help build the book exchange collection by bringing in your gently used fiction, non-fiction and technical books and make sure to visit the exchange often as the selection will change frequently. For more information or questions, please contact the Library at 210 522 2125 or email@example.com.
